The Loyal Knight
Kingdom of Heaven
The Loyal Knight
“The queen grows weary sleeping upon the lonely bed,” said a voice
“Why can she not have true love but must suffer in great remorse?”
The great hall fell silent for the words that were, said and the voice spoke
“Have you no love for such a beautiful woman,” eerily spoken like a ghost
“Who hath dared to utter words of romantic intention, towards my Queen?”
“Who would dare the sharpened blade of the axe,” asked the King
The king watched the face of the Queen as she avoided his glare
Never once giving into the desire to look at her knight so, fair
“Is it proper to ignore the King when you are being addressed?”
“Speak up now flattering tongue and let me hear you confess.”
A handsome knight stepped forward and said with a smile,
“The kingdom dreads your existence from adult to a child.
You have brought shame to the kingdom for the power of lust
May your body burn in the fire and your ashes become like Dust.”
“Sir Killian, how do you speak to me in such a tone for I am the king?
Answer this great knight; was it your words that spoke softly to the queen?”
“The questioning of the Queen’s honor is proof of your foolish way.
For you think not about how it reflects upon you this very day.
The kingdom will no longer serve a king that cannot control his home
Now, lay down your crown and step down from the throne.”
Guards, guards one and all seize this evil, treacherous knight
For he has spoken ill of your king,” though they all remained quiet
“Your father was a great man who earned scars in war, by my side
While you sit here, doing nothing but insulting the Queen, your wife
I honor your father for the greatness of his mighty, powerful heart
But, you have proven nothing to the kingdom and I insist you depart.”
“I will not lay down my crown but you can try to take it from my head.
For it must have been you that seeks to see the Queen upon your bed”
“I promised your father I would protect your life from any blade
And now, I realize, I must break that promise to him this very day.
Take up your sword for you are no longer King of Xanthium.” He said
The king unsheathed his sword that once belonged to his dad, now dead.
“I am adept at the sword, the knife, and the long bow,” the king replied
“I know of your teachings but a sword rusts when left by ones side.
Today, we shall all be free of the hatred in your cold and unloving heart
May your father forgive me but you will see your head and body depart.”
Swords clashed and clanged as the King fought the knight
The king slashed wildly with evil intent and with all his might
But, he was no match for the Knight had fought in every war
Leaving the King’s body and head falling swiftly to the floor
After he had beheaded the King, he took up the King’s sword
Then he bowed before the Queen and swore unto her in word,
“I have protected the kingdom as I once promised his dad
Now, you must swear an oath to rule over all that we have
For the words I spoke to you were not meant to embrace your heart
For what I spoke has come to past as it was meant from the very start
Be brave Queen of Xanthium for we all bow unto thee with our souls
Let honor and love guide thee after we burn him among the coals.”
She looked at the knight and smiled as she took him by the hand
“You have returned honor to the kingdom and all the land.
Even more so, you have defended, my honor from the evil king
You have done more for this kingdom than anyone has ever seen
You have fought on the battlefield and protected us with your life
You truly are an amazing man and sure, the great knight
Stand by, my side, forever faithful as you bring light in the dark
Stand beside your queen and swear you will never, ever part.”
The Knight bowed before her and swore he would be true
He vowed the Knight’s Oath and as he promised her too,
“Forever this day I shall stand by your side with honor and love
For you have won my heart, my dearest angel, from above.”
